American Icons Project

1. What does this icon represent to you? Why? The reason I chose Joan Jett to be my icon is because in my eyes she is someone who did not give up her dream and she fought til the end. Making music was what she lived for and she dedicated her entire life to music and following her dreams no matter what obstacles came her way.
2. Who and What was important to this icon? What was most important to Joan Jett was her music and never giving up on her dream, like when her band, the runaways quit she didnt put her entire music career instead she moved to New York and became a solo artist and did an amazing job. The people that are important to Joan Jett was AC/DC they were her favorite band and in her songs she uses a lot of the same chords they did, and some of her music was inspired by that band.
3. How did this icon become important to American Culture? I don't necessarily think Joan Jett was an Icon to all of America, but if she were I think she should have became important because of her motivation and determination to not give up on her dream and keep moving forward, opposed to stopping and take a break.
4. How did this icon become important to you? I remember my freshman year I heard my first Joan Jett song, and I just liked her sound and it made me feel cool and sort of like a badass (excuse my language), and so I just started listening to a lot of her music and felt a connection with it on an entirely different level and reading more and more about her I have discovered we have a lot in common.
5. Who and What did this icon inspire? Well, besides me I think Joan Jett inspired a lot of young girls that maybe wanted to be in an all girls band, because she grew up in a place where no one believe a girl could be in a punk band, and yet she proved them wrong. What Joan Jett inspired is simple, if you have a dream, grab hold of it with both hands and never let go, miracles do happen.

1. How did this icon become important to you? Marilyn Monroe became important to me through her writing and her way of expressing heself, and I somewhat found a connection with Marilyn Monroe, especially her quote "Imperfection is Beauty, Madness is Genious, It's better to be absolutely ridiculous, than absolutely boring" I mean it's true someonewho's perfect and never makes mistakes is too easy there's no risk being taken and so people tend to lose interest, I'd rather have all the attention for my mistakes opposed to not having any attention at all.
2. What does this icon represent to you? Marilyn Monroe represents someone who was the ultimate doer, that doesn't necessarily make sense, haha. Well she was a great actress, singer, and writer I mean she was an icon someone everyone could look up to she did everything she had a talent for and she made a great career out of it. Even though she is gone she is still remembered by her great works of artistic talents.
3. How did this icon become important in American Culture? Marilyn Monroe became important in American Culture through her acting, and "sex appeal", but she became important to me through her writing because she had an attitude toward everything that was like I could care less what you think sort of "it's mind matter, I don't mind, and you don't matter"

I curretly do not have a possible 3rd icon I have chosen, but if I do I will update my blog as soon as possible.
