3. Describe how Americans pay for health care and the government's role in this process.
The way Americans pay for health care are many ways some pay for it through their employee based insurance, and others such as senior citizens pay for it through medicare, which inclludes hospital insurance, medical insurance, medicare advantage plans and Prescription drug coverage. Another way healthcare is paid for, for American citizens is Medicaid which is usually offered to underpaid families who need to the medical financial support. The governtment is a funder of Medicaid, and it is managed by the states. Medicare is administered by the US Government. For my topic I dont think health care insurance is really necessary because Down Syndrome has never really had a cost issue the main concern with Down Syndrome is that parents tend to abort their child once they find out he/she has Down Syndrome, however a goverentment facility that has founded supporting families that have children or relatives with Down Syndrome is The March of Dimes foundation, which is an organization that was started by Franklin D Roosevelt on the eve of WWll. At first it was created to fund research on a disorder he had which was polio and to support anyone who had it, then overtime they expanded their research and today it is a foundation that supports families with newborns that have defects at birth.
